BALINESE COSTUMES | ULUWATU TEMPLE DANCE AT SUNSET

I went on holidays this August to the paradise island of Bali, Indonesia. The entire experience was an inspiration. However of all the wondrous experiences I had the one that I would like to share was the traditional Kecak and Fire Dance at Uluwatu Temple, at sunset.

This performance of a Balinese mythological play/dance included an array of characters from Gods and Goddesses, to beasts and animals. The characters displayed an ensemble of brightly coloured costumes reminiscent of the island’s religious practice and nature, architecture and sculpture. This was echoed in the costumes’ ornate floral décor, trimmings and intricate sculptural planes.
