THE MAK - MUSEUM OF APPLIED ARTS, VIENNA

I very much enjoyed my visit to The MAK in Vienna. The museum’s architecture was modelled around the Victoria and Albert Museum and it is indeed reminiscent of it.

As well as housing a rich collection I thought the curatorship had some very inventive touches.

Collections were often separated thematically, so for example one section displayed chairs and another spoons, in this way by centring focus on one subject matter the range of designs that can exist regarding just one function was explored.

A collection of ceramics was displayed by using the ceramics to support a pane of glass creating a table on which more ceramics were displayed which I thought was original in terms of curatorship. The exhibit labels were hand written using felt tip pen on the display glass.
